Pacific Rim Aviation Academy has developed a reputation as a premier source
for International students looking to Canada for their flight training.
Why take your Flight Training in Canada?
Canadian Pilot Licences are respected and validated around the world as ICAO Pilot Licences. There are Canadian pilots flying professionally for airlines, military, UN Relief, Helicopter Contracts etc. For example.......UN Relief Flights in Africa, Cathay Pacific Airways & DragonAir of Hong Kong, Qatar Airways, Emirates airline of Dubai, Singapore Airlines, Japan Air Systems, and much more.
The diverse weather in Canada allows for many sunny days to get your initial Pilot Licences completed under daylight, visual conditions. Later on in your training, while undergoing the more advanced Instrument Flight Training, Canada can have many cloudy, poor visibility days enabling you to get real-time, practical IFR Instrument Flying Experience during your training, including flights in rain, snow showers, and some icing conditions.

The low Canadian Dollar makes Training in Canada very cost effective - it is estimated to be 30-35% less than other countries in the west, including the USA. This reduced cost in building hours and training can be a real advantage to Pilots from other countries. The Canadian Dollar is worth only about 80 cents on the US Dollar. This alone can save students thousands of dollars in your Pilot Training. Many pilots in Europe come to the USA to do their pilot training to save costs, not realizing they could cut their costs by another 20% by undergoing this same training in Canada.
Studying in Canada is a relatively straightforward process, but depending on your circumstances there may be a number of steps that require a considerable amount of calendar time to complete. To begin, you should do the following:
1. Contact Us
If you are interested in taking your flight training in Canada, contact us at (604) 465-3594 or email us. We can help develop and schedule a programme of courses that suit your needs.
2. Determine Your Immigration Requirements
Citizenship and Immigration Canada provides information on Studying in Canada, including whether you will need a study permit and how to apply for one, health insurance, obtaining a work permit, and other things you will need to consider.
3. Undergo Medical Examinations
Depending on what country you are from, you may require an Immigration Medical Examination prior to entering Canada. Regardless of what country you are from, you will be required to pass an aviation medical examination for your training. Transport Canada provides a searchable list of Civil Aviation Medical Examiners outside of Canada that can perform this examination.
4. Obtain A Visa
If your training will take more than six months to complete, you will be require a Study Permit. If your training will take less than six months to complete, a Study Permit is not required but may be desirable, depending on whether you plan to work part time or think your stay will be extended. Depending on the country you are from, you may require a Temporary Resident Visa, regardless of the length of your stay.
How do I obtain a Student Visa/Study Permit to come to Canada?
- Read and study the Citizenship and Immigration Student Visa website and the website of the closest Canadian Embassy to you.
- Download all the documents including the student authorization guide and application located here. Read all the documentation and fill out the application form (Form IMM1294).
- You will need an ORIGINAL letter of acceptance for the student visa officials from us. We will send 2 copies of the letter, one for your records the other in a sealed envelop for the High Commission in your country. Payment for shipping is included as part of the Application fee.
- You may need a medical examination. This is not the same as the aviation medical exam. If you are a citizen of the these countries you need a medical exam. It can take weeks to schedule an examination so do not delay in making an appointment. For a listing of doctors by country visit this website.
- You’ll need a NON-REFUNDABLE processing fee of $125.00 Canadian dollars. Payment for a study permit application must be made by MANAGER’S CHEQUE, CERTIFIED CHEQUE, POSTAL MONEY ORDER or BANK DRAFT payable to the “Canadian Embassy”. Cash will not be accepted.
- Proof of funds (e.g. bank drafts, fixed deposits, a bank statement showing the account balance, etc.). These proof of funds must be under YOUR name. Students are permitted to enter Canada to study on the understanding that they have access to sufficient funds for living expenses, full tuition, return transportation and other necessary costs. Costs in Canada vary according to the location of the institution and room and board facilities.
- Police Checks -- You may also have to prove to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) officers that you are a responsible person and that you do not have a criminal record. Police agencies may do a criminal or security background check. These checks are done on anyone over 18 years of age who applies for a Study Permit.
- The embassy will require the original passport or valid travel document. Your Study Permit will normally be valid for the duration of your course. We suggest that you ensure that your travel document is valid for the full duration of your course of study in Canada.
